Oral language begins developing in children prior to school but their oral language skills require attention in the classroom as well, to help build the more sophisticated language they need for reading, writing and engaging more broadly with the curriculum. This workshop introduces some of the key discourse-level and sentence-level skills which can be explicitly and systematically taught orally to support children’s literacy in the early years.

This seminar is suitable for F-2 classroom and specialist teachers, school executive, and support staff as it examines the foundational oral skills students need to progress in the early years at school.
